mr radek
Do you remember Radek ? This 6 year old Persian lives in Newton le Willows, Merseyside with his mum.
Radek has the most amazing-ly (word ?!) long coat you can imagine and it’s a big job for both he and mum to keep on top of it. However, they manage very well and it was so nice that we didn’t need to use the clippers at all during today’s session. Well done to both of you !
We know Radek’s little ways very well, as we see him regularly. For example …. We know that he is more sensitive down his right side, than his left … We know that he doesn’t like his back feet being touched – just little things like that ! So we structure the session accordingly.
We played some soothing cat music, which we think Radek enjoys. He lay very relaxed on the grooming table, almost dozing, for parts of the session. He is very obliging and often likes to offer / outstretch is front legs for a good combing, at the appropriate moment ! It was a very pleasing session all round.
After the session, mum Lorraine said :
“Just had another great session with Sandra. Although Radek can be a tricky little customer, Sandra knows just how to handle him and he soon settles down and is back to looking as gorgeous as ever ! Thanks again Sandra you are a miracle worker xx”
Why not take a few minutes to pop over to our facebook page to see a video clip of Radek, after his grooming session. Look at the length of his coat !!
Well done guys …. See you again soon !!
left or right ?
What do you think ? Is this true for your kitty ?
Previous research has obviously been done to come up with this claim. Why not test it out for yourself … Dangle a toy in front of your kitty’s nose and see which paw bats it. Or put a treat just out of their reach – under the sofa or somewhere – and see what happens.
Then go over to our facebook page and report back :
1.Girl or Boy
2.What the test was
3.If you think they are left or right handed
We think it will be interesting to see how our results stack up !
lovely sophie
This lovely girl is 14 year old Sophie who lives with her housemates and mum in Knutsford, Cheshire.
Sophie is a Silver Spotted British Short Hair (BSH) who we meet up with regularly. Her coat is extremely dense, although short. Sophie isn’t able to keep on top of it herself, nor does she let mum comb her. We think that Sophie has a touch of arthritis around her joints and this probably contributes to her self grooming capability.
We began work underneath, brushing out. No mats, just thick hair – too much of it ! Although it’s only a matter of weeks since we last met up, the coat around the sides and flanks was extremely thick and really ready for a good thinning.
Well done Sophie … See you again soon.
kibble, anyone ?
Here are Jasper and Herbie – 2 lovely chappies that we meet up with in Stockport, Cheshire.
They have a kibble dispenser – the idea being that they have to figure out how to get to the food.
However, they each have their own approach as you’ll see if you pop over to our facebook page and have a look at a short video clip of them in action !
hercules champion
We recently had another pleasing visit with Hercules Champion in Kirkham, Lancashire.
Hercules Champion is a most beautiful 15 year old silver/red Maine Coon who lives with his mum in Kirkham, Lancashire. He doesn’t groom himself as much these days. Neither does his let mum comb him – often using his teeth as a deterrent.
We think that Hercules Champion probably has some arthritis around his joints and he seems to be particularly sensitive on his right side. We worked gently with him, brushing out tufts that were starting to form, and he fared very well.
The sessions do really bring his coat up a treat, and the neighbours often comment on how well he looks afterwards.
Good boy Hercules C … See you again soon !!
timmy tail
Say a big Hello to Timmy Tail – named, of course, due to his exceeding long, full, stunning tail. It must be at least a foot long, if an inch …
Timmy Tail is a black Maine Coon who is almost 2 years old, and lives with his housemates and family in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire. Although he is officially black, he has the most delightful brown-ish tips to part of his coat – particularly around his ruff.
We were called to meet up with Timmy Tail as he had a few ad-hoc small mats that needed work on, and a brush out. As soon as Timmy Tail was on the grooming table it was obvious he knew what it was all about. Although he was vocal, he was relaxed and didn’t mind the clippers one bit. Timmy Tail is a big, gentle boy and laid quite patiently whilst we relieved him of dead winter coat that he had been holding onto.
After the session, it was apparent that Timmy Tail was content and happy with himself. He went straight out into his (enormous) cat garden to have a roll around and sort himself out (picture above, left, after a good roll around !).
After the session, mum Val was pleased with Timmy’s new coat and commented on a post :
” Beautifully groomed Timmy Tail “
Val also told us that following the groom, Timmy Tail had allowed her a little time to comb through his trousers – which was previously unheard of. Fantastic stuff ! Also, please note that his new name is now Tidy Tim !!
Really well done Timmy Tail / Tidy Tim – a model customer !
gorgeous holly
We called in on Holly again, in Padiham, Lancashire for her maintenance groom.
Although it’s only a matter of weeks since we last met up, Holly’s coat was ready for a good brush out – particularly around the rear end and shoulders area where the hair had become quite thick.
Holly is a nervous girl by nature, so it was nice that she approached us upon our arrival and gave us a good head rub. It’s fair to say that Holly is not keen on the grooming process, but with each session it gets a little easier for her – although we’re not sure she’ll ever be keen on being combed around her bum !
Well done Holly … See you again soon chick ….
baby blue
This gorgeous tabby Maine Coon is just 15 months old, and is called Baby Blue. He lives in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire with his housemates and family.
Quite a nervous boy by nature, Baby Blue was very apprehensive when we arrived. He wasn’t keen on being talked to or touched and spent some time checking us out from underneath his cat tower.
We’d been called in basically for a brush out, and to remove a couple of small mats that had formed underneath. Once in the chosen grooming room – before the start of the session – Baby Blue was very nervous. He was calling out and looking for an escape route. However, once on the grooming table he settled quite quickly and after a few more meows, became calm.
Baby Blue was very compliant during the session, allowing us to work underneath with the clippers and comb. At first he was wary of the noise of the clippers, but soon realised that it didn’t hurt. He talked to us intermittently (Baby Blue is a very vocal guy, day to day). We answered – and had a good chat ! He even told us that he needed his litter tray towards the end of the session. After Baby Blue had relieved himself, we continued with his brush out.
After the grooming session, Baby Blue went straight to his filling station for a top up … Well, it had been a good hour since he last ate !
After the session, mum Val said :
“Thank you Sandra, for your expert grooming of Baby Blue 🙂 doesn’t he look wonderful”
Fantastic ! Really well done Baby Blue … We’re soooo proud of you !
pretty poppy
This pretty lady is 10 years old, but looks a lot younger. She lives in Padiham, Lancashire with her housemate and mum.
We see Poppy regularly for nail clipping sessions. As Poppy doesn’t play out that much anymore, her nails don’t wear down as they once did.
Fit, healthy cats that spend a lot of time outside generally naturally wear down their claws sufficiently.
However, indoor or elderly cats may need to have their claws trimmed regularly. Also, some cats have an extra toe (polydactyl) which doesn’t touch the ground (just like the normal dew claw) and may overgrow. If overgrown claws aren’t trimmed they can grow inwards into the pad and can be painful, and become infected.
See you again soon, Poppy … !
lovely eddie
Meet. Eddie. A Blue Persian who lives in Wincham, Cheshire who we think is about 8 years old.
Eddie’s coat was extremely thick and although dad does brush him, underneath the top coat there was dead hair still sat there from the winter which had started to mat. The tummy and chest wasn’t too bad – just a couple of ad-hoc areas needed to be clipped away. The most heavily matted areas were around the flank/trousers. This is quite common, as the hair grows so thick around there.
It’s fair that say that Eddie was a squirmer ! He wasn’t keen on being told to lie still, and did his best to leave the situation.
However, we’re quite sure that as soon as the session ended, Eddie began to feel better about himself straight away. See the piccie of all the hair that came away ! His coat is now much more manageable for both dad and himself.
