gentle evander
This big boy is 18 month old Maine Coon Evander, who lives in Rochdale, Greater Manchester with his family.
Evander already weighs 8.6kg (19lbs), so by the time he is fully grown he will be a hefty chap. Maine Coons don’t mature until they are around 4-5 years old.
We were called in to meet up with Evander as he had developed some matted areas – mainly around his lower back, trousers, chest and armpits. On the grooming table Evander was a little wary for about 10 seconds, then lay still whilst we got to work. He didn’t mind his nails being clipped and wasn’t at all phased by the clippers. We think he knew what was going on. Quite a vocal chap, who cocked his head around a few times to watch the proceedings ! He also obliged at the right moments, by stretching out his limbs !
It was a nice session. After the clipping we brushed out Evander’s coat, which was extremely thick. We managed to tease out the odd tangle here and there and thinned him out. No doubt Evander is feeling much comfier now and mum has a good starting point to move forward with his brushing.
After the session, mum Keela said :
“A massive thank you to Sandra for making our darling Maine Coon Evander look handsome again. Poor Evander’s winter coat had got into a rather bad state but he now looks so handsome and is definitely more chilled out following his new haircut 😉 Sandra was very professional and even made me smile when she singed whilst she was working ! Wouldn’t hesitate to use again xx”
Nice meeting up with you, Evander. You were such a good boy (just like your mum said you would be !).
ice baby
This handsome young man is called Ice (or affectionately, Icicle !). We think that Ice is 2 years old, and he lives in Ince-in-Makerfield with his housemates and family.
We were asked to call on Ice as he had developed some matted areas, mainly on his sides and chest. He had made an attempt to remove some of the problem area on his chest himself, so it had obviously become uncomfortable for him.
Ice was so well behaved on the grooming table. A little fidgety to begin with – along with a bit of swearing – but we didn’t really take him on ! He settled, and for parts of the session was very chilled. He wasn’t in the least bit worried by the clippers as we set to work. Also, he tolerated the brushing out of clumpy hair really well.
After the session, mum Carol said :
“Thank u so much for grooming ice today wot a fab job u did, definitely recommended. He seems so much better in himself lv thank u. ps – sorry for him swearing haha xxx“
Nice meeting you, Ice. What a good lad you were !
gentle april
Remember this lovely girl ? April is a 3 year old Maine Coon who lives with her housemate and mum in Manchester.
April’s coat was in nice condition as mum is able to brush through. Our session was just about teasing out a few ad-hoc tangles underneath and a brush out. No clippers required !
April is a nervous girl by nature, but is now used to the sessions and knows what to expect. It was a very relaxed session with April very calm, and even enjoying the fuss we’d say !
There’s a short video clip of April on the grooming table on our facebook page, if you want to pop over ….
Well done April … Keep up the good work !!
mr copper
Say Hello to Copper. Copper is a Persian who is around 2 and a half years old and he lives in Leyland, Lancashire.
He is the most sweet boy you could meet and was very friendly when we arrived – and very nosey, too ! He paid close attention whilst we set up stall.
Copper’s coat was in lovely condition – in need of a brush out only. Below is a piccie of Copper before the session.
Although he protested a little at times, Copper behaved very well throughout his session. He knew what it was all about ! Copper likes being the centre of attention, and enjoyed all the fuss given during the session.
Well done Copper – such a sweet boy !
our macy
Who remembers Maine Coon Macy from Manchester ?
Macy is 2 years old and lives with her mum and housemate. Macy isn’t too keen on letting mum brush her, so her coat gets into tangles from time to time.
A couple of sessions ago we clipped away some of Macy’s coat to make her more comfortable. Today it was growing back nicely and a couple of small areas had already formed that needed to be removed – underneath and around the armpits. The armpits are a particular area to watch out for when brushing your cat, as these areas tend to tangle and mat very quickly.
Macy was very calm during our session. She does like to growl at times, but kept it to a minimum today. We think she enjoyed listening to the soothing music we played in the background !
Well done Macy chick … See you soon !
sweet zebedee
Zebedee is 14 years old, and lives in Altrincham, Cheshire with his dad. When we arrived, Zebedee was ever so friendly, and came to meet and greet. Zebedee is blind. He lost his sight last year. Before the session, we talked to him, and let him have a good sniff of us, and our equipment before moving onto the grooming table.
Zebedee goes out in the back garden, but doesn’t play out like he used to. His nails were in need of a trim as they were extremely long and sharp. Trips to the vets surgery are difficult as Zebedee becomes distressed in the car. However, he fared really well during today’s session. A little sweet talk from dad, whilst we clipped his nails – and it was over before he knew it.
Really brave, Zebedee – well done chick !
gentle ted
We called in to see Ted again.
Ted is a Tabby Maine Coon who lives in Tockholes, Lancashire with his dad, and he has just turned 2 years old. There’s nothing that Ted likes more than to be out and about checking out his territory and playing in the fields. As you can imagine, he comes home with all sorts of twigs and bracken embedded in his coat.
Since our last visit, Ted has become a little more tolerant of the comb and he and dad have been able to do some grooming. Quite a nervous boy by nature, it was really pleasing to see Ted settle immediately on the grooming table for this second session. It was evident that he remembered the last time we called and that there really was nothing to worry about. We played him some music, and he really chilled out. In fact, once laid on his side, he didn’t move a muscle until it was time to turn around to comb his other side.
If you go over to our facebook page, you can see a video clip of Ted on the grooming table – and you can see for yourself just how chilled he was !
We took a few areas away with the clippers, that couldn’t be brushed out, and rid him of excess hair elsewhere.
Following the session, dad Nick said :
“Just to thank you for making a special effort to see Ted, the scruffiest Maine Coon in Europe, before I went away. He’s rather strutting his stuff now he looks like he has at least learned to walk through hedges forwards. I’m delighted with him. Thanks again.”
Nice seeing you again, Ted. Well done with the 1:1 sessions with dad and keep up the good work !
