mischievous malty
A big welcome to this lovely Siberian (Siberian Forest Cat) Malty in Bispham, Lancashire.
We met Malty last year, when we called to groom his brother. At that point Malty was only 8 months old – still a kitten, who enjoyed being combed. As time has progressed Malty has decided that actually he’s not as keen, and now has a little bit of a teenage attitude about him when it comes to grooming.
Saying that, Malty is lucky in that he has a really nice coat. However, some knotty areas had developed underneath. We began the session quite calmly. Under protest – but Malty managed to remain still whilst we got rid of the worst of the matting. He then decided that enough was enough, and he’d rather be playing out. We told him (very nicely !) that he needs to learn that he can’t always have his own way – and that if he’s going to get anywhere in this life with his long coat, he needs to accept some brushing ! He’s such a friendly boy, he should be enjoying this special 1:1 time with mum.
We’ll see if Malty’s listened when we meet up with him again during the summer … !
handsome harvey
This young man is Harvey from Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire.
Harvey was rescued from the streets, where we think he’d been living for at least a year. He’s been with his new mum for around 4 years now and guess that he’s around 8 years old. He sure has landed on his feet and now has the Life of Riley.
Harvey is a looker, and also is quite distinguishable as a polydactyl . Cats normally have 5 digits (1 Dew claw and 4 fingers) on each of their front paws, and 4 digits on each of the rear feet. Polydactyls may have as many as 8 on some/all of their feet.
Although Harvey is a little wary of new situations, he is very people friendly and gave us a warm welcome. Nosey and dead keen to know just what was in each bag ! When Harvey found himself on the grooming table, however, he’d changed his mind and decided that really he wasn’t up for it. However, we took it slowly with him and with lots of sweet (or nonsense ?!) talk we worked through his coat to remove lots of dead hair and tangles.
He was definitely pretty proud of himself after the session, and obviously wasn’t in the least bit phased.
Harvey’s proud mum Lauren later said
“Absolutely fantastic service. I have a very long and thick haired boy who lived on the streets from a young age so not used to being groomed at all. He’s also a l arge cat with extra toes on every paw, 7 on one of the front ones and he knows how to swipe if he wants to ! Luckily I’ve found Sandra who agreed to travel to me and wasn’t at all phased when I spoke with her for the initial (excellent) phone consultation. It’s worth every penny…. Sandra isn’t just fantastic at what she does but also truly loves what she does which radiates off her and of course, our furry friends pick up on t his vibe ! With advice on combs and able to sell me one there and then, Harvey and I can’t recommend her enough and can’t wait to see her again in June xx”
Thanks so much Lauren …. It was nice meeting up with young Harvey and know he’ll be even more proud of his bod now !
lovely sox
A new kid on our block – Sox ! Would you believe that Sox is now 15 years old ? She certainly doesn’t look it.
We called in to see Sox in Newton le Willows, Merseyside to trim her nails and she is the most sweet little girl you could meet.
On the table, we looked at her nails and the dirty deed was over before Sox knew anything was afoot. She wasn’t phased in the least.
Well done Sox ! – You were a really nice girl to meet up with !
cutie cleo
Who remembers the lovely Cleo in Stockport, Cheshire ?
Cleo is a Maine Coon and she is now almost 6 years old. She is quite a big girl – but tall and slender rather than chunky.
Such a gentle chick, Cleo was very compliant whilst we worked through her long coat. There were just one or 2 knots underneath that needed to be removed, and a brush out elsewhere.
Cleo is used to the sessions and spent the time watching intently on what was going on outside on the street. What was going on, was Charlie White – a neighbour’s cat – who was up and down under the window, pottering about. This took Cleo’s interest for a chunk of time !
After the session, mum Amy said :
“Thanks very much for taking such good care of our Cleo on her grooming sessions, she’s always so happy and chilled out afterwards. So glad we found you, she used to hate being groomed! X”
A really nice, calm session Cleo . Thanks and see you again young lady …
darling dalmore
It was recently time to meet up again with Ragdoll Dalmore in Fleetwood, Lancashire. Mum does a great job keeping up with his coat but we meet up a couple of times per year for a brush out and belly clip (as Dalmore’s not that keen on being brushed under there !).
There were just one or 2 tangles and rest of his coat benefitted from a good brush out. Dalmore wasn’t that struck on the idea and afterwards set about an incredible self groom to sort himself out.
It’s always nice meeting up with Dalmore – See you again in the Autumn, chick … !
miss milly
Milly in Ripponden, Yorkshire asked us to call in for a maintenance session. She’d had enough of her big winter coat and wanted to feel fresh for the Spring.
Milly is a Ragdoll and is 3 years old. She’s only a small girl – but boy, does she carry a lot of coat !
Although Milly’s not keen on her sessions she is very compliant and apart from the old grumble she chills out as much as possible to the music we play for her. She even helps a little with the odd lick around her chest.
No knots today – just a good brush out. Even this though was quite intense – as there was so much of it – so, a big applause to Miss Milly !
See the piccie above, of the hair that came away …
A few days after the session, mum Abby said
“Thanks so much for seeing Milly again for me ! She’s quite timid and decided to hide under my bed for 10 minutes prior to the session. However, she emerged later looking very happy and quite proud of herself. Sandra did an amazing job as usual and Milly quickly forgave her after. Thank you !! x”
pretty misty
It was time to see young Maine Coon Misty again, in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Misty now rolls in a just 12 months old.
Misty has been with her mum and dad in Oldham since she left her litter and was fortunate to move to her new home along with her littermate. The pair of them thoroughly enjoy their youth ! Chasing around and playing all day long ….
Although Misty is such a friendly little girl, and likes attention, she is not that keen on mum combing her. A couple of brush strokes and she’s off … Last session we clipped underneath, the armpits and rear quarters. Today, these areas were growing back nicely and just a couple of small areas underneath needed attention.
Misty obviously remembered our last visit and was much less apprehensive when we began clipping today. In fact she was very obliging with limbs – and sooo friendly with it. She licked our fingers and nose during the session as we had sweet talk and cuddles.
Looking forward to next time already, Misty !
lovely evander
Who remembers 2 year old Evander in Rochdale, Greater Manchester ?
Evander (aka Baba Sweet Cheeks) is a Maine Coon. He is quite a nervous young man, but once on the grooming table he is so friendly, calm and compliant …. and boy, we’re glad about that as Evander is quite a huge young man. He weighs in at 9.3kg (20.5lb). All being well, Evander has done most of his growing by now but he hasn’t finished as Maine Coons don’t mature until 4-5 years old.
Evander’s coat was definitely ready for a brush out. There was only a small tangle that couldn’t be worked through with the comb, but the rest was brushed through. It took a while, due to Evander’s size and thickness of coat – but Evander was so well behaved. A gentleman.
….. and here’s the hair that came away !
Evander will definitely be feeling a little slicker without all that weighing him down !
After the session, mum Keela told us
“Just wanted to say a big thank you for giving our Maine Coon boy Evander a “Spring clean” cut! His Winter coat had gotten rather long and heavy for him but his makeover has made him a happy boy once again and it’s took years off him!! Your professionalism is exceptional and whilst Evander might not be too pleased to start off with, he soon settles down once you get to work and he knows that it’s all in his best interest. Thanks again and hope to see you soon xx”
Fantastic ! Thanks Keela and Evander !
dashing dexter
This gorgeous Maine Coon cross is a new addition to our gang ! He’s called Dexter and he hangs out in Knutsford, Cheshire with his housemate and family. Here’s a piccie of Dexter, mid-lick !
At 9 years old, Dexter thinks he’s the boss. In fact, a bit more than that – he knows he’s the boss (in his view !).
Dexter doesn’t mind being brushed from time to time on his terms. He certainly needs to be in the mood. However, saying that, his coat was in lovely condition as mum and dad were managing to keep on top of it.
To make it easier all round we decided to let Dexter have a clip, to remove most of the hair from his torso. He’s never been clipped before, so we weren’t sure how he would interact in the session.
We began very well and Dexter wasn’t afraid of the clippers. As the session progressed, he decided that actually he’d rather be doing something else. However, we persuaded him that a clip down the left side, and a fully body of hair down the right wasn’t in fashion this season. So, reluctantly Dexter agreed and let us finish the session without too much fuss.
Afterwards, it was obvious that Dexter was pretty chuffed with himself. He came to meet mum as she arrived home from work, then set about a self groom. He seemed pleased that his coat was so short !
