sweet april
We saw Maine Coon April in Manchester again recently. It’s a good few months since we last met up and since then both April and mum have looked after April’s coat really well.
Today’s session was mainly a good brush out. Just one small knot on the chest needed attention.
April, as always, was a good girl. She’s quite a hefty lass, so it’s as well it’s that way.
Afterwards, mum Francesca said
“Another great session today Sandra – both the girls are super happy with their coats ! Thank you !”
A pleasure ! We’ll meet up again in due course, April ! Well done !
monkey man
It was time once again for Monkey’s maintenance groom. Monkey is a handsome 8 year old from Clitheroe, Lancashire.
Monkey enjoys his laid back lifestyle and likes nothing better than to potter around in the garden and surrounding territory making sure all is in order. He has a girlfriend – Bella – a couple of doors away, who keeps him company.
Monkey and mum Sue have been well looking after Monkey’s coat since we last met up. Just one or knots underneath and a good brush out was the order of the day.
Monkey reckons he’s not keen on the sessions – a low growl under his breath for most of the session – but afterwards he’s all headbuts and smiles. In and out of the cat flap … back checking how the clearing up was going. A quick stroke and pet then back out again. Well, who knows what he’d missed whilst on the grooming table !
After the session, mum Sue said
“Monkey was a bit grumpier than usual for his grooming this time. Anyway, there are never any hard feelings and he has been very loving and sociable since. I think he enjoys being stroked more when all the little tufts have gone. He also seems to do more grooming himself after you’ve visited ! Thanks again and see you in the Autumn !”
timid oliver
Oliver. 4 years old. Persian. Winsford, Cheshire.
Adored is an understatement ! Oliver has been with his new mum and dad for 6 months now and has fallen on his feet. He is quite a timid boy but once he was on the grooming table he was quite calm.
One or two moments of fidgety-ness, but this was overcome and calmness resumed whilst we carried on clipping.
Oliver wasn’t keen on us working underneath, but once on all 4s, was quite chilled whilst we continued the brush out. His coat wasn’t too thick but was definitely ready for a good brush out.
After the session, mum Janice told us “Thank you for your visit yesterday to groom two of my cats. Ollie and Phoebe proved to be quite a handful but your expertise won the day. Now the two have wonderful healthy looking coats and have become quite affectionate and relaxed hope you arrived home safely and looking forward to your next visit in the summer”
Well done Oliver – very brave young man !
miss mia
It was time to call on the lovely Mia in Nantwich, Cheshire again.
Mia’s 5 years old, and she was definitely wearing her winter wardrobe at this visit ! As you’ll know, Persians have the most incredibly thick coat anyway – but today Mia’s was something else !
When we last saw her a few weeks ago, we clipped her undercarriage short. The hair under there is so curly wurly and gets knotty and tangly so quickly. So, to make it easier for all concerned we decided to take it back. Today, that regrowth was maybe an inch, but already becoming too difficult to get through with a comb. So, again today, Mia enjoyed a belly clip to help going forward.
Then we began the brush out of the rest of her coat, and although there were no knots or tangles in sight there was much excess hair that needed to come away. Mia certainly is shedding her winter coat !
Mia is always well behaved and there isn’t a bad bone in her body. She will lay patiently while we brush out, but today got a little fidgety towards the end as it was a long session.
Top marks Mia, you did very well young lady !
mister rufus
A big ‘Hello’ please to Rufus in Cheadle, Stockport, Cheshire. Rufus is an 8 year old tabby Persian who lives with his housemate and family.
We decided to let Rufus have a Lion Clip as part of his coat was matted, and the rest would have been too difficult to brush out. This way, Rufus and mum have a fresh start whilst his new coat grows.
We began the session very calmly. Rufus wasn’t too keen on the clippers though to begin with, until he realised that they didn’t hurt ! Then – no problem for some time – but a little fidgety as time went on.
However, overall a really good session and three cheers to Rufus ! See you again in a few weeks time, Rufus ! (Spirit’s story will follow separately).
After the session, mum Abi said :
“Sandra arrived on time with all equipment she needed-including soothing cat music! Rufus went 1st for his Lion cut. He proved a bit of a handful but was dealt with patiently and with love. Spirit went 2nd and was an easier propostion who purred through the whole process!
Rufus took a bit of getting used to his new look but think he now loves it-must be a relief to be free from all those tangles. He is currently following me around like a puppy! Spirit is his usual model self, knows he is beautiful and likes to keep it that way!
Thanks to Sandra for such a professional service and great results! Look forward to the next session.”
baby sophie
Baby Sophie in Burnley, Lancashire. Who remembers her ?
This little Persian chick is now 14 months old. Sophie’s always been very playful and cheeky – but is becoming more so each time we meet up. She has decided that she doesn’t like having her belly tended to at all, and isn’t too keen on the rest.
So, today we gave Sophie a Belly Clip to make life easier for all concerned. This takes the hair back so there is less to tend to between sessions.
We’ve decided that at the next session we’re going to clip Sophie’s coat all round to ease the grooming in total. As a house cat, this is an option for little Sophie – although we haven’t told her just yet !
Watch this space !
persian ollie
Come and meet Ollie. Ollie is a Persian who in now almost 1 year old and he lives in Hoghton, Lancashire.
Ollie has the most amazing, thick coat you can imagine. During the winter months it has doubled in size, and now he’s at the shedding stage. Pelts had formed in places and much of his coat was matted so the only way was to take a large portion of it away for a fresh start for Ollie.
Ollie was a little nervous to begin with, and quite fidgety but he managed to stay still for us to remove the coat. It was hard going. The mats were tight and there was a lot of matting low down on the legs where it’s very bony and more difficult to work through.
However, Ollie’s behaviour was impeccable.
Afterwards, Ollie looked half the size – and much younger ! Removing his big overcoat had taken years off him !
A few days after the session, mum Denise told us :
“He seems a lot happier, and a lot sillier if that’s possible. May and Mini have not had a moment’s peace ! …. I think he must feel so much better … “
what a doll !
Pretty Persian cross Dolly in Carnforth, Lancashire asked us to call on her again for her maintenance groom.
Dolly is almost 2 years old and as a Persian has a high maintenance coat. We see her on a regular basis and she is used to her sessions and knows what to expect. Dolly particularly likes the music that we play for her during her sessions – she really responds well to it.
Today, just a couple of knotted areas needed attention, along with a brush through to rid Dolly of winter coat.
She was a little sweetheart and was very compliant throughout.
Well done Miss Dolly ! See you again, chick !
mini muffin
Say a big Hi to little Muffin !
This little cutie is a British Short Hair (BSH) and is just 7 months old. She lives with her dad in Manchester.
Today was Muffin’s introduction to a formal grooming session. She was a little fidgety to begin with, but as the session progressed managed to calm and lie still – and actually enjoy some of the brushing.
Muffin preferred the slicker brush to the comb. This is fine at the moment as her coat hasn’t yet developed – ie. still kitten fluff ! As she gets older, her coat will become denser and need a good comb out to keep on top of it.
Nice meeting you little girl !
little thalia
Thalia, a very pretty little Lilac Point Persian asked us to call in and see her. Thalia is 6 years old, although she still looks like a kitten. She hangs out in Blackburn, Lancashire with her housemate and family.
A few knots had formed underneath, which mum had managed to removed. The rest of Thalia’s undercarriage was quite thin, as she’d been overgrooming. On top, a pelt had formed covering a large proportion of Thalia’s back and sides (see piccie).
What a brave girl ! Not in the least afraid of the clippers, Thalia seemed to instantly know what was going on and was patient whilst we removed the problem area. Extremely tight to the skin, it was a relief to see it come away for her. Here’s a piccie of the said pelt.
After the session, mum Louise said
“Thank you so much for coming to my home and really helping with quite an upsetting situation. My lilac point Persian had within 3 weeks gained herself a full back all matted from sweating on a radiator bed. She was over grooming and really uncomfortable. Sandra was just amazing. Without sedation she clipped Thalia and groomed the remaining coat, cleaned all of her ears and cut her nails. Brilliant. She is now so so happy, really comfortable and has got back to her old beautiful self. I can’t be grateful enough and Tito her brother is looking forward to seeing Aunty Sandra now at the end of March xxxx highly recommend from myself xxxxxx”
Thalia must be feeling sooooo much comfier now. Well done little chick !
