sweet april
We met up again with our friend April. April is a 3 year old Silver Tabby Maine Coon who lives with her housemate and mum in Manchester.
Maine Coons are the largest domesticated breed of cat and are also known as the American Longhair. In the USA, each state has its own official or representative mammal and – surprise surprise – this breed is the official domesticated state mammal of Maine !
April is quite a nervous girl, until you really get to know her and then she can be as relaxed as anything.
Mum had managed April’s coat very well since our last visit … A few ad-hoc tangles to sort out and a nice brush out was what was required. April was wearing her summer coat today, so it was an easier session than at other times of the year.
That’s not deflecting from that fact that April was a good girl, and it was nice seeing her again !
Why don’t you pop over to our facebook page where you can see a short video clip of April on the grooming table earlier this summer, during her session. Enjoying herself !
gentle herbie
This sweet little man is Herbie in Stockport, Cheshire. Remember him ? He’s the most gentle little guy you could imagine.
We have met up previously with Herbie to groom him, but his coat isn’t too thick, and mum is easily able to manage it. So, this visit was just about a nail trim.
Fit, healthy cats that spend a lot of time outside generally naturally wear down their claws sufficiently.
However, indoor or elderly cats may need to have their claws trimmed regularly. Also, some cats have an extra toe (polydactyl) which doesn’t touch the ground (just like the normal dew claw) and may overgrow. If overgrown claws aren’t trimmed they can grow inwards into the pad and can be painful, and become infected.
Herbie is a nervous young man, but each time we see him he is noticeably less so. This time around he was much more relaxed about proceedings – so we say “Well done Herbie ! Such a brave chick !”
miss cruella
….. but not “De Ville” by any stretch of the imagination …. This Persian lady is Cruella, and she lives in Goosnargh, Preston, Lancashire with her housemates and family.
We had our first session with Cruella a few weeks ago. At that point Cruella fared very well during her brush out, but was a little fidgety. Today, Cruella took it all on board and lay very patiently whilst we worked through her thick coat. There were some areas underneath that needed to be clipped away, and the rest of her coat was brushed out to rid her of the dead hair that was sat there.
Towards the end of the session, Cruella was lying very contently on the grooming table – just chilling out, we think. She probably would still be there if we hadn’t very politely shifted her on … ! She then went and sat outside – and had a good groom and sorted herself out …!
A few days after the session, mum Sue commented :
“Cruella is a different cat after just two sessions with Sandra, she looks fantastic and must feel it too. Sandra is the most patient person I know and has worked wonders with Cruella. She also has given me the tools to look after her in between visits. Thank you x”
Fantastic, Sue … and a really pleasing session, Cruella. Well done chicky and nice photo shoot (best foot forward !) … See you again soon !
the lovely elsa
We called in to see Elsa again recently. Elsa is a most gentle, beautiful 3 year old lady who lives in Stockport, Cheshire with her mum and dad.
Mum is able to keep well on top of Elsa’s coat … with Elsa’s help, of course ! …. but we meet up for a maintenance groom a couple of times per year.
At each session, Elsa has definitely become more chilled out. Today, she laid very relaxed on the grooming table whilst we got to work underneath. There were no tangles for her to worry about, so she just concentrated on the relaxing background music and we think that she really liked it.
As ever, Elsa was very obliging with her limbs – outstretching her back legs at the appropriate moments. Thanks Elsa ! … and she really enjoyed the fuss around her upper body and ruff area.
A really nice session all round. ! We (mum) took some video footage of Elsa during her session, which you can watch on our facebook page.
Well done, Elsa … It was so nice meeting up with you again !
quiet maisie
This lovely lady is Maisie from Stretford, Manchester. We think that Maisie is around 14 years old.
Although Maisie’s coat is short, it is extremely dense and now that she is getting older, Maisie isn’t able to look after quite the same as during her younger years.
We last met up about 4 months ago. At that point, Maisie’s coat was quite clumpy and tufty in parts. We had a good brush out and mum has done well keeping on top of the combing since then. Today, however, Maisie was again ready for a good brush through.
It was evident that Maisie remembered the last session and although today still quite vocal, the language wasn’t as choice as last time ! Maisie also was far less fidgety. We took a great deal of dead hair away from her coat and no doubt she’ll feel much better for it.
Well done, Maisie ! See you again for your Spring brush out ….
not so tiny, tiny
How nice it was to call in on Tiny again in Didsbury, Manchester. Tiny is a 2 year old (pretty enormous!) Maine Coon who is the most gentle, friendly guy you could meet.
Although Tiny was a little fidgety and vocal at first on the grooming table, he settled somewhat and we got to work on his undercarriage – where he’s not too keen on mum brushing. We clipped some small areas away and began brushing out the rest of his coat.
As the session went on, you could see Tiny really beginning to chill out. He definitely remembered our last session and that Hey, it hadn’t been that bad – and that in fact, he’d felt better afterwards.
As we moved on from brushing out his tummy – onto his flanks and sides – he was enjoying the attention. Oh yes you were, mr Tiny !
After the session, mum Ann said :
“Despite all the grumbling at the time Tiny is very pleased and relieved to be without all those tats after your visit this morning. In celebration he ran round like a kitten, insisted on playing a hunting game with the feathery stick, had a massive wash and is now flaked out on my pile of nice freshly washed towels. Thanks, Sandra for another job well done.”
Thanks Ann …. and nice seeing you again Tiny. Well done chick – you look lovely !
oct birthday babes
Why not come over to our facebook page and say a big Happy Birthday to our October Birthday Babes …..
Before you do :
We have several breeds here. British Short Hair, Domestic Long Hair, Domestic Short Hair, Maine Coon Cross, Maine Coon and Persian.
Can you take a stab at who is who in terms of breed ? ….. and who do you think is the youngest – and who’s the oldest ?
miss tilly
Tilly gave us a call from Blackpool, Lancashire and said she thought it was time we met up again for a brush out.
Tilly is a 3 year old Silver Tabby Maine Coon who lives with her mum and dad. We last saw her during the summer and at that time, Tilly had her summer coat. Today, her hair was much thicker but she’s done well keeping on top of it.
It was a warm, sunny afternoon so we were able to hold the session outside, in Tilly’s cat house. It’s much more preferable than inside as there’s usually a bit of a breeze to keep us cool.
More recently, Tilly has had the freedom of the garden to explore – which she adores – and it’s fair to say that she’d rather have been out there on the other side of the cat house door. However, we had a good brush out to get her in shape for the winter months to come.
Nice session, Tilly. Well done !
