miss molly
Who remembers pretty Molly ? Molly is 7 years old and lives with her dad in Urmston, Manchester. She is a quiet, friendly girl – who likes the night life !
Molly is a short haired lady, and it seems likely to us with her dense coat and markings that she may be Burmese cross. She has a lovely coat, but our visit was timely. Even though we saw her just before the summer – and therefore it’s been the lighter season since – her coat was beginning to clump up.
We brushed out Molly’s coat, and managed to tease out/comb out tufts that were developing around her lower back, flanks and rear quarters. It was a little heavy going at times and Molly would definitely have preferred to have been either in bed, or playing out !
However, she fared well and we took away a lot of dead hair. She’ll definitely feel better for it.
Nice seeing you again, Molly. Well done !
do you have house rules ?
Can you relate to these rules ?
Would your cat agree ?
Are there any missing ?
Why not come over to our facebook page and let us know
hercules champion
As always, it was nice to meet up with 15 year old Maine Coon Hercules Champion in Kirkham, Lancashire.
Hercules Champion definitely has a sixth sense. He always seems to know just before we pull up on the drive, and has been known to do a disappearing act. However, we’ve always found him as the neighbours always seem to know which way he just went !
Today, Hercules Champion was relaxing in the living room and moved without fuss to the grooming table. We had lots of fuss and cuddles and sweet talk during the session. He really does like that !
We see Hercules Champion regularly as he is no longer able to keep on top of his coat, nor does he let his mum brush him. Today was mainly a brush out, with just one or 2 ad-hoc tangles that had developed that needed removing.
You did really well, Hercules … Well done, and we’ll see you again soon ….
squirmy rory
This little guy – Rory – is a 13 month old Persian who lives with his family in Blackburn, Lancashire.
Rory is every so friendly and charming, but a more squirmy fellow you will not meet ! Mr Rory spent the entire session trying to escape.
Although mum is able to comb in short bursts, Rory’s coat had become matted down at the root so no amount of brushing would solve the problem. We basically clipped the coat on the torso away, and brushed out around the ruff and back end – although that was tough going, as Rory really isn’t keen on a harsh comb.
As the coat grows back, this will give mum and Rory a chance to get used to the combing, without any tugging. The bottom line is that Rory is a Persian with a thick heavy duty coat, so grooming has to be part of his daily life. He does like a bit of fuss – so that’s a good starting point !
We know that Rory will definitely feel more comfy without the tugging of knots underneath his armpits and inner thighs, so he must be feeling happier about himself.
A few days after the session, mum Jill said :
“Thank you Sandra, Rory seems to run about more since his new fur has been brushed and shaved. He still does not like the comb and brush, but he has started to sit on our knees now for cuddles, even mine which is unusual. I will keep trying with treats and see if this helps.”
Well done Squirmy Rory – now let mum brush you !
pretty jasmin
Say Hi to Jasmin, a 6 year old British Short Hair (BSH) who lives in Chorley, Lancashire.
We called in to meet up with Jasmin as her coat, although mat free, was thick and becoming difficult to comb through in parts – particularly around her flanks and rear quarters. Of course this, and her tummy, are the areas where she’s really not keen on mum and dad brushing.
Jasmin didn’t mind her nails being clipped at all, but we moved straight onto her belly and at that Jasmin wasn’t pleased. Very vocal throughout, she told us a right tale. Something to do with not having known anything like it before ….
Once we’d worked through the flanks, Jasmin wasn’t too bothered about the rest of her torso being combed. She was really ready for a good brush out and lost a lot of dead hair in the process for which she’ll no doubt feel better.
Well done Jasmin – we know you weren’t keen.
pretty holly
It was time to see the pretty Holly again, in Padiham, Lancashire.
Holly is 5 years old and is a real gentle girl. She is always very talkative, and today was no exception.
Although Holly does manage to keep on top of her coat herself very well, she is always ready for her brushout. In the past Holly has suffered from matting around her rear quarters and trousers, as her coat is the thickest around that area – along with her shoulders.
We began underneath – no problems there, just an expected amount of dead hair came away. Holly told us all about what had gone on over the past few weeks since we’d last seen her. Gosh, she’s been busy – playing out, catching mice, keeping up to speed with the other cats in the neighbourhood….
Nice seeing you again Holly …. Well done for looking after your coat so well ! See you again soon ….
handsome harry
Who is this bonny lad you ask ? It’s Harry ! (complete with tongue in mid-action – how cute!)
Harry is a 2 year old Red Persian who lives with his housemate and family in Liverpool, Merseyside.
Harry needed some help with his coat as it had developed a couple of matted areas – mainly around his back. He has been to a groomers before, but we decided to give him the ‘home’ experience this time …. and we think he liked it !
He was a very good boy whilst we got to work with the clippers. In fact Harry said that he liked the clippers better than the comb.
He also remarked that the background music we played for him helped him chill out !
After the session, mum Mandy said :
“I had my Persian cat groomed today “Harry”. I must say, how fantastic Sandra was, she was great with Harry and he seemed relaxed during it. His coat looks beautiful again, mat free and shiny ! Harry in himself seems happier !! I would recommend EssentiallyPurrfect to any cat owner without a doubt ! Prompt and professional service all round, five stars !!!!”
Fantastic … Thanks so much Mandy …. Harry’s such a cutie guy to meet up with !
lovely luigi
Luigi is a 4 year old semi longhaired Exotic who lives in Windermere, Cumbria with his housemate and family.
We meet up with Luigi on a regular basis as, although his coat isn’t that long, it makes up for it in density ! It is extremely plush and is always ready for a brush out.
We’ve been seeing Luigi now for over 12 months and since his regular grooming sessions began, there has become a noticeable difference in his coat. It seems much more even, sleeker, shinier and healthier in general. Regular brushing stimulates the skin and removes dead cells, as well as removing loose hair – which in turn of course reduces the likelihood of tangles and mats developing.
By nature, Luigi is a very nervous boy. However, each time we meet up, Luigi is less anxious. Today, he was placed on the grooming table and he laid down of his own accord, with no thoughts about needing to leave the situation. He really does deserve praise for this !
We had a good brush out – and Luigi is now a lot lighter ! After the session, Luigi was given the option of leaving the room, but he chose to stick around and have some food, and a bit of a nosey whilst we cleared away. Well done Luigi !
gorgeous macy
You know Macy ? We meet up with Maine Coon Macy in Manchester regularly to keep on top of her coat, as it easily becomes tangled.
At almost 3 years old, Macy is a large, strong girl and can be quite determined when she sets her mind to it. She’s not keen on mum brushing her but is compliant in our sessions – even though we have the odd growl thrown in here and there. We think that really she knows what it’s all about and that she feels better for it afterwards. Maine Coons are noted to be above average intelligence.
A few tangles underneath were worked through, and a good brushout elsewhere.
Well done Macy ! See you again in a few weeks time ….
jolly jasper
We had a really nice session again with Jasper, in Stockport, Cheshire.
Jasper is 4 years old and lives with his housemate and mum. Mum is able to keep on top of his coat ever so well, which is no mean feat as it is incredibly thick and long. However, it was in need of a good brush out so his session was timely.
As ever, Jasper told a right tale … “Meow, meow, meow ….” but he lay patiently whilst we got to work – and he loves the small talk ! Lots of smiles again from Jasper today …
After the session, mum Claire said :
“Hi Sandra, thank you for your wonderful patience with Jasper yesterd…ay, he’s certainly feeling the benefit of his groom and pamper session and he’s now very relaxed as you can see! We look forward to seeing you next time xxx”
Well done Jasper !
If you missed it last time around, there’s a short clip of Jasper on our facebook page, just after his last session. Please take a few mins to have a look over there …
Thanks for being a good boy and we’ll see you in the New Year …
