worried about your cat’s matted coat ?

We’ve worked with many cats with matted coats, including lots of older ones.  If the coat isn’t brushed out adequately, it often results in mats forming particularly around the thickest areas of the body – flanks, thighs, trousers – and that hard to reach tummy area !   Also, as a cat gets older it’s often the case that arthritis develops, making self grooming more difficult or impossible.

If you are worried about your cat’s coat, the best thing to do if get in touch to discuss the options.  Basically, the problem won’t solve itself and will only get worse over time.   We can discuss brushing out and saving whatever hair is possible, and clipping away the areas that are beyond brushing.  We never use sedation in our sessions.

We went to see Tess in Wigan, Lancashire.  Following the session, mum Kath and dad Neil said :

Sandra came to our home to groom Tess our 20 year old cat.  Tess was in a really bad way with densely matted hair along her back and hind quarters due to old age and an arthritic condition.  So, we really thought Sandra may not be able to deal with her extreme condition.  Tess must have been one of the worst cases Sandra has had to deal with, but deal with her she did and in a truly empathetic yet professional way.  There was no rushing or hurrying, Sandra spent hours on her even though it was a really hot day.  The special care Sandra took whilst grooming Tess, we feel made it a positive experience for her.  Friends and family cannot believe the difference in Tess, she looks and acts like a cat half her age.  It’s given her a new lease of life!  We can’t express our thanks enough to Sandra , we both feel very lucky to have found her.

naughty ? no !

We called on Naughty in Rossendale, Lancashire for her regular grooming session.

Naughty by name, but not by nature – not on the grooming table at least.  However she does think she’s the boss of the house !

Naughty is short haired, but always benefits from a good brush out.  She used to be a little wary of having her nails clipped, but now she is much more relaxed about proceedings – and it seems she actually enjoys all the attention that the session brings with it.

mr le shah

We called once again on one of our lovely regular customers – the Shah  – in Salford, Greater Manchester.

During the summer, we had clipped away some of the Shah’s coat, as it was a little matted.  When we visited him in October, his coat had begun to grow back nicely.  At this session (photo on the right), it was lovely to see that the hair was almost back to full length.  It will take another month or so, and he’ll be there with a gorgeous full coat again.

The Shah is allowing his dad Tony to brush a little each day to keep on top of the grooming, and this evident from the lovely condition of the Shah’s coat.  Well done boys !

washday !

Looks like today is washday !!

hercules the champion

It was nice to call on Hercules Champion in Kirkham, Lancashire again.

Hercules Champion is a gorgeous Silver/Red Maine Coon.  He’s going on 15 years old, but he doesn’t look it !

Hercules Champion was very calm whilst we clipped his nails, and very amenable on the table while he had that hard to reach belly combed.  He lay and dozed whilst we got on with it !   … and it was nice to see that the hair that was matted and clipped away in October, is growing back nicely.

Mum Gerry later said :

“Hercules Champion looks so good after his grooming session.  I’ve just been speaking to a neighbour too, who commented on just how good he looks !  I’m cooking him his favourite boiled chicken for his tea as he’s been such a good boy”

This one was just too cute to resist …. !

our radek

It was so nice to see our friend Radek again, in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside.  Radek is a Persian, and is 5 years old.

He greeted us with a few head buts, then had a nosey around the equipment whilst we set up.

Radek has such a beautiful long, thick coat.  It was a little tangly, and he was very patient as we worked through the sections – until he came out the other end looking lovely !

Well done Radek – looking forward to seeing you again soon !
